Eric is away at training for four weeks so Sophie and I made a trip to see Eric's parents this past weekend. Unfortunately Sophie had an accident the first night we were there. I had just got her in her jammies and she was showing off dancing and spinning in circles. She fell and hit the fireplace hearth and cut her forehead open. We headed to the ER where we waited hours for her to get stitched up. It was a horrible experience for all of us. They had to put Sophie in a "papoose" (which I call a straight jacket) in order to give her stitches. She was bleeding and she was screaming mama. I think I cried as much as her! Fortunately, Sophie will most likely forget the experience....unfortunately the rest of us will not! The day after "the incident" Sophie got a cold which made things even worse. She didn't sleep for about three nights...which means mama didn't either! However, she is finally feeling better and back to her happy self playing in the water in our backyard.
Grandpa stayed with Sophie while she was napping one day while Paula and I went to Hillsboro to watch the air show. It was really cool! We saw several small planes doing tricks as well as big fighter jets. It was nice to have a little break after the trauma of the previous couple of days.
I am now in scar prevention mode combatting the scar on my beautiful baby's face! I have been finding any/all creams, ointments, and lotions to help make the scar appear not as noticeable. She's so young so hopefully it won't be too bad.
I never realized how horrible it could be to have your child in pain. I wanted so badly to take her place. I'm sure this will not be Sophie's last injury but in the future hopefully daddy will be there too. She has been missing him so much and talks about him several times a day. Today she picked up my phone and "talked" to daddy for 5 whole minutes! We are looking forward to seeing him on the 9th. She and I will go to Boise for the BBQ/Concert for soliders and their families. He will then come home to La Grande on the 10th and get to spend a week here before leaving for his year long deployment.
The pictures I am posting were taken with my phone. I think with everything that happened I never took my camera out of it's case this weekend. I also think it's hard for me to look at pics of her with an owie or bandage!
