Sophie's Party

On Saturday we had Sophie's birthday party. We were very happy to have friends and family over to help celebrate Soph turning 1. A big thank you to my friend Jessica for helping me setup and decorate for the party. We had a great day with our big girl. She wasn't sure what to think about the cupcake with the candle but once she tasted it she liked it! She got lots of wonderful gifts but the ribbons seemed to keep her attention the most. :) Sophie had two friends over for her party. Since Taylor and Wesley are a little older than Soph they helped teach her how to open gifts and then how to work her toys. It was very cute! Thanks to family and friends for sharing this fun day with us.

Happy Birthday Baby Sophie...or is it Toddler Sophie now?

Yesterday Sophie turned one! We had a great day. First off, Sophie's friend Taylor and her mom Jessica came over to visit. While the girls played Jessica helped me with a little decorating idea for Sophie's room. Then we all had some ice cream to celebrate Sophie's big day! We had Water Babies Swimming Lessons in the evening and since it was Soph's birthday Daddy came with us and got in the pool. She really enjoyed having him there to play in the water with her. Sophie really loves going down the waterslide and gets upset when we stop taking her down it! After swimming we came home and had "brinner" (breakfast for dinner). We made homemade buttermilk blueberry pancakes. Sophie really liked them! Later on for dessert we had some ice cream. We lit a candle and put it on Soph's ice cream. She wasn't sure what to think of the flame. Sophie got to open one gift on her birthday. She got a doll. She really liked it but when I showed her how the baby cries when you take the bottle out of her mouth she didn't seem to enjoy it! I decided that since Sophie turned one it is time to start brushing her teeth. So we did that for the first time and she didn't seem to mind it at all. We had a wonderful day with our big girl. We are really looking forward to Sophie's birthday party this weekend!

Day at Grammy's

Last Friday Sophie and I went to Grammy's for a visit. Both she and Grandpa Larry were having "Sophie withdrawls" since it had been a couple of weeks since we'd seen them! We had a great day with them. My cousin Niki and her boys Chance and Gage came over to see us while we were there. Sophie loves kids and really enjoyed playing with the boys. We also went to Greaty's (Great Grandma's) while were there. Sophie got to see Greaty's chickens. She wanted to touch them but they were not big fans of that idea!

Here a few pics of little Soph. I have recently found a new harido for her that keeps her bangs out of her eyes. We are doing Water Babies swimming lessons again this month. Sophie likes it even more than last time. Sophie recently had her first popsicle. We justified it by saying it was to help her with teething! It had no sugar added though. She of course enjoyed it!

Happy Easter!

Easter was the day after we got back from our cruise so we spent it at Eric's parent's house. His sister and her family came over for Easter lunch. It was nice to spend time with family and have a delicious meal. Even Sophie's cousins Charlie, Henry, and William made treats to contribute to the meal.

We gave Sophie her Easter basket in the morning and she didn't know what to think about it at first. She immediately put the eggs, and the rubber duck in her mouth. In fact, we could hardly get her to take them out so we could get pictures! She soon figured out that if she opened the eggs there were some snacks inside. Of course mommy wouldn't let her have candy but she got some yogurt-covered puffs.

Cruise

The last week of March Eric and I went on a cruise of the Mexican Riviera. Eric's parents offered to watch Sophie while we went (thanks Dan and Paula!). We had a wonderful time! The weather was wonderful...mostly high 70's and low 80's.

Our cruise left from San Diego. The first two days were at sea and the weather was great. We explored the ship and layed by the pool. We also ate WAY too much. The food was amazing! We found that using cell phones on the ship was very expensive so we decided to purchase some internet time so mommy could check in on Baby Sophie. Grandpa was really good at emailing pictures and updates each day.

After being at sea for two days we were excited to get off the ship at our first port Mazatlan. We didn't have anything planned to do other than to explore and hit the beach. We ended up catching a small little catamaran sail boat that took us to Deer Island which was just across from the main beaches of Mazatlan. We were the first people on the island but as the day went on lots more people showed up. We headed back to the main beach in the afternoon and found a nice Mexican restaurant right on the beach to eat at. We both had three different kinds of shrimp since we had read that Mazatlan is the shrimp capital of the world. It was very yummy! We then had the chance to meet up with my Aunt and Uncle who were on another ship that happened to be in the same port that day.

The next day in Puerto Vallarta we had planned to take a zipline canopy tour. They loaded us up in an open-air army type truck and we went on a 45 min ride to the mountains. Once we got there we got our gear and were given instructions. We had a great time! There were 14 platforms, 11 vertical traverses, 1 tarzan swing, 2 hanging bridges, and 2 rappels. Right before we started the tour I got a little nervous but after doing one or two ziplines I was more comfortable. The company we went with was very safe and we were always "attached" to a saftey line.

Our last port was Cabo San Lucas. The first part of the day we walked around and explored and did some shopping. Then we got on a 50 ft. catamaran and headed to Chilleno Bay to snorkel. The water was a little chilly at first but after you were in for a little while it wasn't so bad. We saw lots of interesting colorful fish.

The last day we were at sea on our way back to San Diego. The wind came up and the waters got a little rough. Neither one of us got seasick but it was it was definitely hard to keep your balance with 7.5 -12ft. swells!

We had a very fun time but we were excited to get home and see our baby girl. :) Thanks Grandpa and Grandma for taking such great care of her!
